CHAPTER TWENTY-TWO
Fenna closed his eyes and rested his head against the headrest. Over and over the conversation between he and Lenna replayed in his mind. A light rapping on the car window brought Fenna out of his head. Garrison stood outside the car with a concerned look on his face. Fenna motioned for him to join him in the car.
Shutting the door, his partner asked, “Mind telling me why you're sitting out here alone in your car boss?” Fenna glanced over. Garrison had one eyebrow raised and looked at him with a hint of worry.
“Lenna called.”
“What? What did she say?” Garrison turned sideways and rested an arm on the dash, fully immersed in whatever Fenna was about to say.
“Not much, she was mostly on the receiving end.”
“What did you tell her?” Garrison asked. Fenna could hear the distrust in his voice. He didn't think he should be telling her anything.
“I told her about the kid. She knew of the ring he had on.”
“What?” Garrison shouted. “How the he—?”
Fenna held up his hands. “I know, I know. I asked her if she knew any Terrence, but she said no, but she would ask,” he enunciated.
“Holy shit. Lenna and the River?” Garrison asked.
Fenna shook his head. “I don't think so, but I can’t say for sure. Yet.” He glanced at Garrison. “I think we should tail her.”
Garrison contemplated this for a second. “Yeah, we should have some time ago.”
Fenna nodded. “You remember seeing any more of those rings at any of the other homicides?”
“No, but we can check with Longmire. You think Michael and these other young guys are related?”
“We are about to find out,” said Fenna. “C’mon. Let’s start from the beginning of this shit,” he said, exiting the car.
